Kathryn Brockett TS #9 (hour one)

Hang Ah and I met Monday evening for two hours. She congratulated me on teaching my first class, because she was one of the students in the speaking class that Kourtney and I taught earlier that day. I told her I had been nervous to teach but she reassured me with positive feedback on the lesson! I always enjoy our sessions, because the book we are reading is really interesting and Hang Ah seems to really enjoy it as well. This time instead of just skimming the section for the first time along with her, I read it before our meeting and highlighted some interesting new cultural concepts and some tricky vocabulary so I'd be prepared to better guide her in understanding. The book reached somewhat of a climax, as the author, Tara, tells the story of the time she and her family were in a severe car accident. Because of their religion, the father does not believe in going to hospitals or schools. The mother was injured very badly but they did not call an ambulance or take her to the hospital. Ever since the accident, Tara's mother has experienced symptoms of brain trauma and Tara's brother, who was driving the car, blames himself.
