Kathryn Brockett CP #3

Marcia and I had quite a lot to catch up on, since we had to reschedule our last meeting when I was sick. Marcia recently was accepted to a Ph.D. program at Penn State for materials science and engineering. She initially applied for the master's degree, but her adviser recommended that she go ahead and pursue the Ph.D. and she was accepted very quickly. She will move from Tallahassee to Pennsylvania at the end of the month. She told me that she was nervous because she has never lived anywhere so cold. Even when she first came to Tallahassee from Brazil she felt it was too cold. I reassured her that with a few new sweaters and coats she will do just fine. We compared the grading systems in Brazil and the United States, because Marcia was telling me about some of her difficult classes when she was an undergraduate student in Brazil. Marcia told me she thinks that the U.S. does everything quickly and efficiently except for elections. We spoke for a while about the recent election and her experience with elections in Brazil as well as her parents' experience in South Korea. We discussed politics for a little while, talking about the pros and cons of having two major political parties. Overall, we had a very well rounded and interesting discussion.
