For this tutoring session, I wanted to try to incorporate a lesson from one of my previous classes. In the past, I had to create a podcast based off of a cooking recipe. We spent a couple of days going over how to do this because describing food is not easy. It requires using adjectives and adverbs outside of my own expertise. I showed Jung a cooking video from the Food Network and told her to keep note of the adjectives used. Afterward, we created a small list of these words and phrases, and then I asked her, "What happens if we don't have visuals?" This is when I began to show her different food blog posts, Yes, they had visuals, but they were not as prominent and detailed as the ones on the Food Network's video. I read some passages out loud, and so did she. I noticed that I continuously kept note of how she pronounced certain words and went over them with her toward the end of the lesson.
